Import a Multisim Live circuit
CircuitSim reads .ms14 and .msjs files from Multisim Live, one at a time or a whole ZIP at once.

CircuitSim can open circuits saved out of Multisim Live and rebuild them as editable schematics. Most of a schematic comes across: components, wires, values, designators, labels, probes, and text notes. The conversion is not perfect, so what converts and what does not is worth reading before you import a term's worth of work.
Get the files out of Multisim Live first
In Multisim Live, open the circuit and choose Download from the menu at the top left. Download, not Export. That gives you a .msjs file. Keep the files somewhere other than your downloads folder, and put them in a ZIP if you have a lot of them.
Multisim Live is being retired on 15 September 2026, and Digilent has said it does not guarantee access to saved designs after that date. Download everything you want to keep before then.
Import into CircuitSim
- Sign in, then open Circuits.
- Choose the import icon in the toolbar. Hovering it shows Import circuit. You can also drag files straight onto the circuit list.
- Drop in your files. The dialog accepts .ms14, .msjs, .zip, and CircuitSim's own .csim exports.
- Check the list. Each file shows what was found in it, such as 12 components, 9 wires, 2 probes. Anything that would not parse appears as a yellow warning and the rest of the batch carries on.
- Set the options below, then choose Import circuit.
You have to be signed in. The dialog will open for a signed-out visitor, but the import itself fails with You must be signed in to import circuits.
The options in the dialog
Import as public decides who can see the result. On the free Basic plan this is fixed on, because Basic does not include private circuits. On Standard and Premium it starts off, so imports are private unless you say otherwise.
Auto adjust labels tidies designator and value text after the conversion. Labels shift during the import because the fonts and component sizes are different, and CircuitSim does not nudge overlapping labels apart on its own. This starts turned off. Turn it on unless you have a reason not to.
Tags are applied to every circuit in the batch, which is the easiest way to keep a large import together. Every imported circuit also gets the tag imported-circuit automatically.
What happens with a ZIP
CircuitSim looks inside the archive for .ms14 and .msjs files and ignores everything else, including nested ZIP files and any .csim. If the same design is in there as both a .ms14 and a .msjs, the .msjs is used, because it carries the simulation settings as well as the schematic.
There is no limit on how many files you can bring in at once. Each circuit is saved separately, so a batch can partly succeed. If one file fails you get a message naming that file and the others still arrive.
Plan limits
The import counts against your circuit limit. If the batch would take you over, the dialog says so before you start: Importing 8 circuits would exceed your plan limit of 5. You currently have 2 circuits. Reduce this import batch or delete an existing circuit before importing. Delete something, import fewer at a time, or upgrade.
An imported circuit is allowed past the per-circuit component limit, so a 40 component design lands intact on Basic. The limit applies again the next time you save that circuit by hand, so you will be able to open and run it but not add to it.
One case fails outright on Basic: a .msjs whose saved analysis is a DC sweep, because DC Sweep is a Standard and Premium feature. The message is This simulation type is not included in your plan. Change the analysis in Multisim Live before downloading, or upgrade.
After the import
The circuit takes its name from the design's own name inside the file, which is not always the file name, so the saved circuit can be called something different from what the dialog showed you.
Open it and check it before you rely on it. What converts and what does not lists what to look at, in the order that finds problems fastest.
