Public and private circuits
One toggle in Circuit Properties controls who can see a circuit, and on Basic that toggle only moves one way.

Every circuit has a single visibility setting, and it lives in the Circuit Properties panel under Details. The toggle is labeled Circuit is public, and its tooltip reads If enabled, anyone can view the circuit (but not edit it).
What public means
Public grants read access to everyone, including people who are signed out. A public circuit gets its own overview page on the web, appears in Public circuits, and can be found by search engines. Visitors can look at it, copy it, and open their copy in the editor.
Public does not grant edit rights. Nobody else can save changes over your circuit because it is public. Edit rights come from group sharing, covered in share-a-circuit-with-a-group.
What private means
A private circuit is visible to you, and to any group you have shared it with. It has no public page, and requesting its public URL returns a 404.
Private circuits are a paid feature. Standard and Premium include them. On the free Basic plan, saved work stays public.
The toggle saves immediately
Flipping Circuit is public writes straight away, without a separate save. You get Circuit made public successfully or Circuit made private successfully. If the write fails, the message is Failed to save circuit visibility.
The Basic warning
Because Basic cannot hold private circuits, going public on Basic is a one-way move. CircuitSim asks first, with a dialog titled Make this circuit public?:
You're on Basic. Making this circuit public is permanent unless you upgrade. You won't be able to make it private again.
The confirm button is Make public. Read that dialog before you click through it. Once a Basic circuit is public, the only route back to private is upgrading to Standard or Premium.
If you attempt something that requires private content on Basic, an upgrade dialog appears instead, headed Private circuits are a paid feature, offering Dismiss, Make public and save, and View plans.
Drafts
A circuit you have never saved is a draft. Drafts have no public page even with the toggle on, and they are never indexed by search. Save the circuit first, then decide on visibility.
Copy counts
Public circuits carry a copy counter, shown as Copies on the public page. Every time somebody copies a public circuit, that number goes up. Copies of private circuits are not counted.
Choosing
Public is the right default for anything you want feedback on, anything you want to link to, and anything you are happy to have indexed. Private suits client work, coursework in progress, and designs you are not ready to stand behind.
Visibility is per circuit, so a public portfolio and a private working set can coexist in the same account.
